Chapter 01

How WeldSure uses welding standards

Users record what was actually tested. WeldSure applies the controlled logic and displays the permitted scope.

Standards rules are locked Dates and approval ranges are derived from evidence. They are not user preferences and cannot be widened in Settings.
Chapter 02

Continuity and external requalification

The six-month confirmation shows continued use of the process. External requalification remains a separate milestone.

ISO 9606-1 · Steel

Six-month confirmation

Continuity is confirmed every six months so the record shows that the welder has continued to use the process within the relevant range.

Weld / last confirmation+ 6 monthsNext confirmation due
ISO 9606-1 · Steel

External requalification

WeldSure uses a three-year external requalification cycle for steel qualifications and keeps the six-month continuity confirmations visible inside that period.

Qualification test+ 3 yearsExternal requalification due
ISO 9606-2 · Aluminium

External requalification

Aluminium qualifications use a two-year external requalification cycle, with continuity still confirmed every six months.

Chapter 03

What a test approves

A qualification proves only the permitted range around the variables used in the test.

Why the test variable controls the approval range

A qualification proves only the permitted range around the variables used in the test. WeldSure displays the derived range rather than allowing it to be typed wider.

Test technique Single layer (sl)
Approved technique Single layer only

A single-layer test does not demonstrate multi-layer technique.

Test technique Multi-layer (ml)
Approved technique Single layer and multi-layer

The multi-layer test covers both layer techniques.

Other essential variables WeldSure checks

The exact range depends on the selected standard and the test record.

Welding processThe approval is tied to the recorded ISO process number; a different process is not silently treated as covered.
Material groupThe tested parent material determines the displayed material-group range.
Product and weld typePlate, pipe, butt, fillet and branch tests are assessed through their applicable range rules.
Thickness and diameterTest-piece dimensions drive the calculated minimum, maximum or open-ended range.
Welding positionThe test position produces a controlled list of qualified positions.
Backing and consumablesBacking condition and filler-material group are retained as essential qualification evidence.
Chapter 04

How WPQR and WPS fit together

A WPQR is the supporting qualification evidence. A WPS turns an approved range into controlled production instructions.

1pWPS scope

Define the proposed variables and intended joint.

2WPQR evidence

Confirm an existing approval or qualify a new procedure.

3Released WPS

Issue production instructions inside the approved range.

ISO 15614-2 approval ranges

Exact automatic ranges remain clearly flagged for controlled review until the relevant standards material is supplied and verified. WeldSure will not guess.
